FIRE MONITOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Seatec Employees hired as fire monitors are trained to use both Simplex and Fireworks monitoring systems to assist UAB’s Maintenance employees, including electricians, plumbers, general mechanics, etc. by alerting them to fire alarms, and other issues within the system, as well as assisting with maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing monitoring devices by performing the following:
1. Monitoring Simplex and Fireworks 24/7 for any alarms that may arise
2. Alerting the appropriate maintenance employee/supervisor when trouble, supervisory, or fire alarms are triggered in the system during both regular and nightshift/weekend hours. This is done using radio, paging, and UAB phone systems
3. Ensuring that trouble alarms communicated immediately and are addressed within 4 hours, and that supervisory alarms, also communicated immediately, are addressed within 2 hours
4. Notifying maintenance, including supervisor, immediately of any Fire Alarms, and Ensuring Fire Alarms are dispatched by call-center within 90 seconds to the Fire Department, UAB Police, and through the UAB Paging System
5. Assisting maintenance crew with locating alarms within the physical buildings based on schematics and device address
6. Enabling/Disabling devices per electrician’s request for testing, construction, etc.
7. Placing buildings in test/bypassing devices for fire alarm testing and repair and documenting:
a. Date/Time/Buildings Tested
b. Name of person requesting test/bypass
8. Notifying UAB Police before/after testing the following buildings:
9. Announcing building-specific fire alarm testing using UAB’s overhead paging system
10. Documenting all Fire Alarms using UAB’s Fire Alarm Notification Form, to include:
a. Date/Time/Location of alarm
b. Fire Dept. Dispatcher name/number
c. UAB Police Dispatcher name
d. Time of alarm silence and name of requestor
e. Time of reset and name of requestor
f. Fire truck number/Lt or Sgt Name
g. Reason for alarm
11. Documenting all other records, including trouble and supervisory alarms, that arise, any specific work done on any device or building, specific communications regarding work throughout the facility, such as generator testing, HVAC call-outs, etc.

• While we do not monitor UAB Highlands, we are responsible for reporting any issues communicated to us by their monitor, Johnson Controls, to the UAB Highlands supervisor.
• Other duties unrelated to Simplex/Fireworks include notifying the on-call or on-site supervisor immediately of any medical gas alarms, as Seatec employees are responsible for monitoring this panel as well. Like other alarms, this must be documented.
